Under the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR) of 2000, it is the responsibility of all users and owners of pressure systems, including espresso machines, to have the boilers and other components tested and certified for safety. This must be done annually, as advised by the HSE. In the past, insurance companies would send engineers to conduct on-site inspections, requiring the presence of two people at the cost of the merchant.
