Now becoming a more common site on supermarket shelves, Kalettes are a subtler tasting combination of the two great, traditional European flavours of kale and Brussels sprouts which create a superb looking, exceptionally nutritious novel variety with an outstanding sweet, nutty flavour. Kalettes were developed by a Brit’sh seed house following a 15 year breeding program which was entirely natural, using selective breeding and hybridisation only, with no genetic modification. Kalettes provide an exceptional wintry harvest season, when there is a shortage of fresh vegetables, that ranges from October to March. Both outdoor and indoor sowing possible. They can be steamed, used in stir fries, roasted, grilled – or even eaten raw. A healthy patch of leafy greens in your garden is both wonderful to look at and helps maintain a healthy lifestyle.
